Resumo: The present work intends to review from the point of view of tourism competitiveness the case of San Juan de los Lagos as a site of attraction of religious tourism. For this, several statistical databases were reviewed, a structured survey was applied to visitors to that location during October 2018; Likewise, a review of websites about the tourist promotion of the place was carried out. Among the main results it can be mentioned that this population is part of a circuit of sanctuaries that continuously receive visitors, which is why it is considered as a relevant tourist pole for the state of Jalisco. Despite the efforts made by municipal authorities to improve urban infrastructure and thereby increase the tourist competitiveness of the population, it still requires a lot of effort to become a place of interest for non-pilgrim tourists.
