Resumo: The tourist activity has traditionally used military resources as attractors of tourists’ flows. The military world offers many elements that can contribute to define new tourist destinations-products, such as museums, military constructions, discoveries, weapons, means of transport, palaces or fortresses, military historical recreations, tours of battlefields. However, this research identifies the problem that all these elements have not been managed as components of a specific destination typology, capable of attracting defined segments. Thus, it seems necessary to address this phenomenon jointly, from what has recently been called Military Tourism.       It is required to define a general framework for this subject before carrying out more complex researches. Military tourism is a reality that requires academics to make an effort to limit its concept and theoretical background, and to define the research lines that the international scientific community has approached so far. The purpose of this work is to outline the theoretical framework of Military Tourism and to identify the main research lines through the analysis of the scientific literature in this field of knowledge.
