Resumo: Mining grants its enclaves a cultural identity with unique and distinctive characteristics at the global level: geographical, economic and social isolation; heroism in the collective imaginary; natural landscape was modelled by activity; lack of roots population; submission to mining companies (modus operandi and modus vivendi) and the grouping of their workers (collective interest). Two coal basins separated by their origin and historical development, with too many convergences and divergences, make it necessary to compare and analyse some variables related to tourism: the Andalusian region of the Guadiato river, province of Córdoba (Spain) and the Patagonian region of the Turbio river, province of Santa Cruz (Argentina). Their parallels: they were developed in rural landscapes of small non-navigable river basins, tributaries by of other major rivers (Guadalquivir and Gallegos) those flows into the Atlantic. Both with small bordering populations forming isolated regions of the regional context, connected each other with an industrial rail wail to take the coal extracted from their mines to the regional and national market. Their contrasts: the productive cycle of the mines (start and end of the operation), the management form (several private or state mines), the location (agro-ecological characteristics and border area), the scale and extraction form, the characteristics and destination of production In this comparative study, the possibilities of promoting the industrial mining tourism will be derived, considering the activity as complementary (never alternative), which can be used as a necessary tool to generate local growth, with a sustainable socioeconomic development.
