Resumo: Starting with speed as an advantage over other types of transport at the end of the 19th century, the railroad was introduced at first for the mobility of goods in order to expand and multiply commercial exchanges between regions to integrate them into a national market and later for the transport of passengers. In 1962 the Chihuahua-Pacific railway began operations, known as  El Chepe, due to its tourist attraction it still operates for the transport of passengers. In 2018, the federal government of Mexico proposed the construction of the Mayan Train that passes through the states of Chiapas, Campeche, Quintana Roo, Tabasco and Yucata´n, to take advantage of the strategic location and consolidate the development of the region. The objective of this work is to identify and analyze the importance of the Mayan Train for the South- Southeast Region from the tourist perspective. Methods and materials: the research is of a documentary type with an exploratory-descriptive design that uses secondary sources of information. Results and conclusions: the Mayan Train is a project that aims to speed up the transport of goods and the use of archaeological and beach tourist attractions. The mexican government, based on investment in infrastructure, encourages the multiplier effect of private investments in urban centers throughout the project's area of influence.
