Resumo: The Carboniferous Basin of the Turbio, has missed tourism, due to its strong culture related to the exploitation of coal. The economic boom was between 2005-2016, after the regional declined in the 90s and the professionalization of young people in this territory has allowed us to gradually reverse the social mentality in relation with the tourisms. The understanding of tourism like a dynamic and adaptive economic activity, that makes it necessary to have adequate information to assess objectively the actions and impacts. From 2012 to 2015, semi-structured surveys were carried out students of secundary school, prior to graduation, considering that they would be able to enter the local labor market in the medium term. The appreciation that young people have of tourism as an alternative for endogenous development is a fundamental aspect of this work, raising the knowledge they have about local resources and attractions, considering their sustainable use, including components of education and environmental awareness. The selected methodology allowed to reveal and deepen the sociodemographic and economic profile of the participants, recording their opinions and preconceptions, achieving an impression on the potential tourist of the region, reflecting on the tourist attractions, regardless of their categorization. This work was able to verify the attitude of the students towards tourism, giving relevance to their perception of the impacts of this activity could have on the community and the environment, as well as their possibility of becoming a tool for local development.
