Resumo: The built heritage has always been a motivating element of travel, and an essential part among the attractions that make up cultural tourism. Among all the buildings that make up the architectural complex of a city, religious monuments stand out in the case of Christian countries, whether they are churches, chapels, convents or abbeys; Such is the artistic or historical value of many of these properties that they have been recognized with the “World Heritage” mark by UNESCO. In this article, it is intended in the first part, to carry out an analysis of the aspects related to the religious heritage that have been recognized by UNESCO as intangible heritage, and in the second  part, to review the case of two Mexican denominations of world heritage and the role that religious heritage played in his application to achieve such recognition.
