Resumo: O desejo de estar junto ao mar movimenta milhões de turistas, todos os anos, em direção às cidades litorâneas. O presente artigo historiciza a construção de alguns discursos produzidos desde fins da década de 1960, para munícipio do litoral sul catarinense. Nesta época, as aceleradas transformações das grandes cidades associadas ao contexto repressivo dos anos da Ditadura Civil-Militar, fomentaram a busca por espaços que se distanciassem, de alguma forma, desta realidade. É nesta conjuntura que começaram a ser produzidas representações sobre Garopaba, a partir de Porto Alegre, que discorrem sobre alternativas possíveis à Modernidade ou ao sistema, e que ainda se fazem presentes dentro do imaginário produzido sobre a cidade e ajudaram-na a se transformar em um dos principais destinos turísticos de Santa Catarina. About Garopabas: The Construction of the Tourist Discourse in Santa Catarina’s Coastal - The desire to be near the sea moves millions of tourists towards the coastal towns every year. This article seeks to historicize the construction of some discourses produced since the late 1960s for a municipality of this state's south coast. At this time, the rapid change of major cities associated with the repressive context of the years of the Civil-Military Dictatorship, fostered the search for spaces that could get away, somehow this reality. It is at this conjuncture that representations about Garopaba began to be produced from Porto Alegre, who talk about possible alternatives to Modernity or to the system, and they still are present within the imaginary produced over the city and helped it become one of the main tourist destinations of Santa Catarina
