Resumo: The aim of this research is to analyse Jesus Maria’s Folklore and Taming Festival as a tourist attraction where the preservation of traditions and new tendencies merge. We ask ourselves how the cultural consumptions of the 21th century impacton a traditional event such as these and how the immaterial heritage is interpreted in the present. In order to do so we used semi structured interviews to key informers: people from the organization, spokespeople, riders, the press and tourists as well as participant observation and document analysis. The results show a series of elements linked to continuous improvement within the organization and to new ways of experiencing this traditional event by the public. Both dimensions intertwining changes and continuities in an event that stands as a keeper of the national identity.
