Resumo: The objective of this study is to propose a method of assessing well-being in tourist destinations from the perspective of human development, specified in an individual Human Tourism Development Index (HTDI). The vision expressed in a life assessment index is considered valid and timely to study the tourist reality. The methodology that is applied and proposed measures the quality of life using the Human Development Index (HDI) of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). The HTDI is built with income indicators for tourism, universal education and health of service providers; three dimensions considered as being fundamental in human development without which other welfare goals are usually unattainable. It enables the ideal standard of living to be measured and shows the effects of the economic and social policies of tourism (Rincón and Labarca, 2013: 109, 110). The results for Tapijulapa, Magic Town, reveal that tourism generates human well-being with a medium and high level in the HDI (0.550 and more than 0.800). The components of the HTDI reflect access to tourist income with a medium and high level (0.550 and more than 0.800); health is valued at a high level (0.700 and more than 0.800) and education at a low and medium level (less than 0.550, up to 0.799). Undoubtedly, actions must be carried out to improve welfare rates, with priority attention to the education of service providers.
