Resumo: The article discusses the role of social capital in the tourist cruise sector in the destination of Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, in the period of 2010-2014. Reason for the cancellation caused in the port of Mazatlan, Sinaloa, due to insecurity and lack of management by public and private sectors agents, in the time mentioned beforehand. The navigation of the cruises includes, in addition to the states of Jalisco and Sinaloa, the port of Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur, this route is known as: the “Route of the Mexican Pacific”. To begin with, the research seeks to know the intervention of social capital with the categories of trust, participation, organization and coordination to avoid the crisis of tourist cruises in the port of Vallarta, afterwards, the application of the qualitive method is developed under the hermeneutical paradigm and finally, the results are presented which prove the creation of a local cruise committe under the prompt action of the elements of social capital.
