Resumo: The objective of this work is to analyze the processes of location of poverty strips that take place in Bacalar, Quintana Roo. First, a conceptual approach to the poverty strips is proposed and the implications of tourism in the growth and economic development of a region are theoretically discussed. To commit the objective, a two-phase cabinet methodology was proposed, first the poverty indicators and poverty maps that the National Council for the Evaluation of Social Development Policy (CONEVAL) generated with a level of disaggregation at the Area level were reviewed. Basic Geostatistics (AGEB). With these data, buffers were created in ArcMap to measure the degree of influence that the Bacalar Lagoon has regarding tourist activity and socioeconomic spatial segregation. This made it possible to delimit the poverty strips that were identified in Bacalar, with Laguna itself, Avenida 9 and the Federal Highway being the limits and areas of influence of the poverty strips. It is concluded that in the case of Bacalar tourism has brought with it undoubted elements to speak of economic growth, however, the identified inequality, as well as the poverty strips, allow us to question whether tourism activity has really generated development in Bacalar.
