Resumo: While there are many studies about the Way of St James, little attention has been paid to the landscape features of the route and their significance for pilgrims. Barcelos, a municipality on the Portuguese Way of St James, is a good laboratory for the analysis of these elements. The study was carried out in 2020 and in 2022. Using a grid of 22 variables, the study analysed the type of landscape, its significance, areas for rest and meditation, and drinking water points along the 33.6 km of the route that lie within the municipality of Barcelos. The results reveal that, despite certain improvements between 2020 and 2022, additional changes are still needed in order to improve pilgrims’ well-being and mental health.
