The tourism strategies of multiple destinations have been criticized due to the permanent economic emphasis and the increase of visitors, without considering the associated negative effects, as well as the new post-COVID19 trends, which demand greater sustainability in all human activities. The objective was to reveal the social priorities in the design of strategies for Cozumel Island (Mexico) to prevent or mitigate the unsustainable use of tourism in a post-COVID-19 scenario. A case study was carried out through a multi-criteria analysis using the PESTLE technique (Politics, Economy, Society, Technology, Law and Ecology) and a survey. The results suggest that strategies should be oriented in priority towards conservation and sustainability, and then employment. This research contributes to island tourism destinations in the design of tourism strategies with emphasis on sustainable use and crisis management.
