Resumo: The Covid 19 pandemic has provoked historical repercussions on the socioeconomic, cultural and political activities of countries across the world. The objective of this article is to critically review the emerging literature that focuses upon the impacts of Coronavirus on the tourism industry, in order to be aware of and understand the efforts made by experts from international institutions, organizations and governments in managing the crisis. In order to do so, the Scopus and Google Scholar databases were utilised with the aim being to establish which recent articles on the topic have had the greatest impact, measured by the number of citations, and the conclusions to be had by these studies. The common consensus appears to be that the pandemic has disrupted the classic tourism paradigm and it is thus necessary to focus upon the creation and emergence of new theories and methodologies that, in turn, can be practically applied among tourism destinations on a global basis.
