Resumo: This article deals with the issue of tourism, in particular focuses on the Programa Pueblos Mágicos, which is federal tourism program that emerged in Mexico in 2001. The objective of the work is to evaluate the innovation of the Programa Pueblos Mágicos, so it has been decided to take the fourteen indicators with which the winners of the Project Experiences in Social Innovation contest developed by ECLAC (Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean) together with the W. K. Kellogg Foundation are valued and selected. In methodological terms, the work is mixed, qualitative because it is based on the analysis of previously carried out research on tourism and the Pueblos Mágicos; and quantitative because it processes, analyzes, and presents data taken from SECTUR (Secretaría de Turismo) and INEGI (Instituto Nacional de Estadística y Geografía), in both cases the information is compared with the indicators and a valuation is assigned. The results show that in the Programa Pueblos Mágicos there are several areas of opportunity in the economic, social, and environmental areas. Finally, some recommendations are made that deal with recognizing that the tourism sector is a dynamic and complex phenomenon that is linked with other sectors and subsectors, therefore, it is necessary that its indicators are also interconnected and have the possibility of being easily valued. This is because one of the findings of this work is the lack of specific indicators to assess and, where appropriate, redirect the strategies of the program in favor of the different participating sectors.
