Resumo: The continuous growth of tourism activity has generated the emergence of new tastes and preferences, not only in terms of inbound tourism but also outbound tourism; that is why the creation of an outbound tourist profile and its analysis, from a general perspective using the Plog theory, leads to know the needs and expectations, and to outline a tourism trend and promotion. This study focused on the canton of Cuenca, Ecuador, where, after a bibliographic review, studies on the profile of the outbound tourist were highlighted, but not an analysis of its own population. study had a quantitative approach, with a descriptive-correlational scope and a cross-sectional cut. For the correlation of the variables, the non-parametric Chi-square test was applied, which allows us to perform a statistical test to evaluate hypotheses about the relationship between two categorical variables. It was found that the largest number of tourists in the canton of Cuenca are psychocentric, that is, travelers who seek known and developed destinations and use tourist services that provide safety and comfort, leaning towards mass tourism or sun and beach tourism. Keywords: Cuenca-Ecuador, tourism, Plog theory, tourist profiles, sun and beach tourism.
