Resumo: Mexico has 14 world heritage cities, which makes it considered a tourist destination par excellence, as well as interesting for tourists. These types of cities are places that meet the requirements set by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) such as monuments, paintings, handicrafts, buildings, manuscripts, films, sculptures, architectural ensembles, collections of science, photographs, archeological sites, historical artifacts and photographs. The objective of this work is to demonstrate the importance of heritage cities in Mexico in relation to the displacement of tourists. A descriptive qualitative methodology was used with secondary sources such as articles, books, websites, as a result, this type of heritage defines the cultural identity of a town, state and/or country as well as being an economic asset in terms of receiving foreign currency and job creation, since it represents a development engine for tourism.
