Resumo: Accessible tourism is an important area within the tourism sector worldwide. However, despite continuous advances in Universal Design and Accessibility (UDA), there is still much to be done to meet the demands of a significant minority of travellers with restricted abilities, who require destinations that offer inclusion, safety and comfort. The aim of this study is to propose a development plan for Santa Clara as an accessible tourism destination. The study uses a descriptive-qualitative approach based on inductive-deductive and analytical-synthetic methods, direct observation and semi-structured interviews, to produce a SWOT analysis matrix. The results show that Santa Clara does not currently meet the accessible tourism conditions necessary for optimal enjoyment of the destination by people with physical and/or mental disabilities. Nevertheless, the study concludes that Santa Clara is an ideal candidate to become a model for the implementation and management of accessible tourism.
