Resumo: Inland tourism, with its different typologies, has been developed in accordance with the tourism policies of each territory and in line with a logical process derived from the negative impacts caused by the extraordinary growth of the conventional model of the sun and beach product. It has been assisted by the advancement of the sustainability paradigm. The objective is to analyze how public policies have contributed to promoting inland tourism in Brazil and Spain, promoting a new spatial dynamic of the activity in the last two decades. The research can be classified as descriptive, documentary, longitudinal or evolutionary (2000-2019 period). In the case of Brazil, in addition to the data obtained from official public bodies, other sources of a different nature have been used due to the scarcity of systematized official information: The Quatro Rodas Guide (GQR). In Spain, the information on rural tourism development policies implemented through the Leader and Proder programs, among others, as well as the data on the evolution of inland tourism provided by the National Institute of Statistics (INE) have been analyzed. Despite the fact that different tourism realities prevail in these countries, the sustainability paradigm has gained relevance in both territories, and has contributed to improving the spatial structure of this activity, allowing greater diffusion and the increase of this sector in inland areas.
