Resumo: Tourism is linked to the territory, when it occurs in rural areas the complexities of this space are added to the study. The article analyzes the changes framed in the new rurality and the integration of tourism as a productive activity to the Ejido San Pedro de Aconchi, in Sonora, when the state government built a thermal park in its interior. Political ecology is the analytical framework that makes it possible to explain the modifications in the rural territory, result of structural and legal variations; it is also used a concept of access that complicates the simple idea of possession of the land. The article uses documentary research and qualitative methodology tools such as interviews and observation. Among the main results, it is anticipated that the public intervention for the construction of the pools coincides with a new institutional rurality that stimulates the development of tourist activities that coexist with other traditional activities [cattle raising]. The tourist expression of this destination is health and wellness in its thermalism line, since the main attraction is a thermal spring that belongs to the ejido.
