Resumo: Social innovation initiatives have as their main objective to generate a positive social, economic and ecological impact. The changes generated must have the capacity to benefit the population and not only seek the mere achievement of economic gain. Therefore, the principles of participation, collaboration, communication and sustainability are elementary in the decisions and actions that are carried out from these initiatives. Given their social nature, these acquire special relevance in a pandemic context such as the one currently experienced, since they help to create and implement possible local solutions with the ability to respond in a conscious and effective way to the problems caused at this juncture. In this sense, the aim of the research is to study an example of social initiative, while facing challenges during the health contingency caused by COVID-19. The research was based on a qualitative case study of a chinampera cooperative in the Xochimilco area, this is based on document analysis, application of interviews and direct observation. Among the most significant contributions is the identification of strategies that the cooperative implemented to address the consequences generated by the pandemic. Thus, the work shows a case of implementation of social innovation initiative, through a company that seeks to face certain problems caused by the pandemic and, at the same time, benefit members of the community.  It concludes with the importance of continuing with a research agenda where more cases are studied on initiatives that try to respond to the consequences left by the health contingency.
