Resumo: In a tourism demand side that is highly competitive with projected new trends and destinations during the post COVID-19 era, traditional and established destinations can become more competitive by encouraging tourists to repeat their visits. This research examined how destination characteristics and tourist satisfaction affect the intentions of visitors to return to Arrecifes de Cozumel National Park in Mexico. Measurements were based on participants´ responses to both open and close-ended questions, thus, their perspectives and experiences upon visiting Arrecifes de Cozumel National Park. The questions included in the instrument are those that are usually used in tourism studies related to fidelity and intentions to return to a destination. A total of 420 questionnaires were systematically handed to tourists upon entering the park and were requested to hand them over with responses at the end of their visit to the park. Results indicate a positive and significant relationship between visitor satisfaction, fidelity and the intention to return to Arrecifes de Cozumel National Park for tourism. In general, the level of tourist experience among the respondents varied significantly upon visiting Arrecifes de Cozumel National Park based on their age, gender, country of origin and the number of years they have studied. However, an insignificant negative correlation was found between destination characteristics and tourists´ level of satisfaction.
