Resumo: The objective of this article is to analyze the concept of young indigenous farmers, as local actors with agency, where identity to the territory is essential (Boisier, 2010; Vázquez Barquero, 2007). It is understood that tourism, under certain conditions, allows the young indigenous farmers to enhance their capacities as endogenous actors of development. The first theoretical part explains the relationship between the endogenous development, culture and territories, as concepts linked through the local actors. It continues with a study of the different meanings given to the concept of young people, as to understand youth in an indigenous context (Bourdieu, 2002; Pérez Ruíz, 2011). Then, a state of the art on indigenous youth and their links with tourism is presented, emphasizing the agency of these actors to strengthen their tourism management capacities (Pastor-Alfonso and Espeso-Molinero, 2015; Félix-Quezada, 2018). Finally, the article reflects on the importance of promoting research that transcends the study of the subjects, towards action-research frameworks which contribute to strengthen local capacities, social transformation and the visibilization of the young indigenous farmers’ roles. (Kemmis and McTaggart, 2007; Martínez Castillo, 2012; Acero 2018).
