Resumo: This paper analyzes the importance of the historical, cultural, naval, industrial, architectural and tourist heritage of the legacy that the Enlightenment left in the city of Cartagena. It was the starting point for the implementation of new port and military functions, and it definitely marked the city. This contrasts with the lack of awareness on the part of the authorities and the citizens regarding the identity of this heritage complex. A serious touristic proposal is needed in order to project it in all its value and potential, which has similar precedents in what has been done in other cities with similar characteristics, such as Cádiz or Ferrol.
