Resumo: Mexican hotel chains have been standardizing their strategies under various actions that are also followed by industrial economic groups: they become groups as a superior category of the company; they go beyond the regional logic and transition to the national one; they decide thanks to their accumulation of capital rather than depending on political support; they respond more to corporate and organizational strategies based on their growth and expansion that leads them to adopt more complex management structures, diversification and horizontal integration. Objective: to know the characteristics and   competitive strategies that allowed the hotel groups: Pueblo Bonito, and El Cid Resorts to become successful economic hotel groups, identifying their business units, size, structure, and alliances. Methods: historical and analytical methods are used. The research is of a documentary type with a descriptive scope, it is supported by secondary sources of informat Results: the strategies have been shaped by the historical trajectories of each hotel group and according to the development of the national tourism sector; its role in competition, assets and reproduction of capital for new investments.
