Resumo: This paper has proposed shifting the concept of 'professional competence' to 'labour competence' in order peculiarities and changes in requirements in the field of work that individuals have submitted and multidimensional relationships that they develop in their daily lives. For this purpose, a brief history of the conceptual theme of 'professional competences' was drawn and an analytical model was presented whose differential is in recognition of components that guide the actions of individuals in their daily lives, in terms of whose assessments were, or not, 'competent', transcending individual perceptions. From this model and the underlying concepts, the shift to 'labour competences' was designed, allowing to analyze competences of workers regardless of the level of formalization of their work. Then, an agenda of recent research was presented, which prompted this reflection, and prospects for future investigation were outlined, embracing both thematic connections as methodological contributions due to the possibilities that this shift allows.
