Resumo: Public Works are a relevant activity for economicand social development. The largest companiesin this sector operate in several markets, becausedomestic markets are, usually, too small inorder to achieve interesting return levels, whichmatch with the level of investment in assets.Internationalization can use different strategiesand different foreign markets approaches.Latin America is an interesting market to study, concerning this theme. The analysis of largestcompanies that are working there, consideringthe well known models of internationalization, allows us to conclude that geographic and culturalproximity are relevant variables supportingthe internationalization process decision. Alsoeconomic potential and strategic geographicsituation are important variables concerning thesame set of decisions. Networks creation is alsoimportant and, sometimes, the relations betweenstakeholders of the internationalization processare the most important parameter supporting themarket approach, but those relations are oftendiffi cult to discover.
