Resumo: In this paper we endeavor to make known to the scientific community, the latest developments in credit risk management in the Spanish financial institutions from a retrospective standpoint, trying to make a contribution to the causes of the crisis in the sector at this time.Starting with the regulatory framework which provides the basis for managing credit risk, we continue to describe the whole process of administration and control, finishing by observing the evolution of the main figures relative to the performance of credit investments in Spain, contrasted with the performance of supervisory expectations.It ends with a reflection on the strategic control and some suggestions for the future of supervisory activities, you should consider, as well in addition to the parameters of classical envelopes or provisions in relation to the activity inside the sector, external variables such as the evolution of financial system in its macroeconomic environment and the aspirations of stakeholders with decision-making in these areas
