Resumo: Tourist demand resulting from the Internet is of increasing importance as a result of the increasing number of online bookings observed in recent years, leading to the appearance of a new type of traveller: a more experienced, sophisticated and wise tourist, who seeks exceptional values on his travels. The analysis of current tourism demand cannot neglect the characteristics of electronic tourism, since the volume of tourism products purchases made via the Internet is becoming more pronounced. In this context, panel data models are a suitable approach for the analysis of tourism demand. Due to their characteristics, which allow the use of time series and cross sectional data, these models enable the use of social variables and observed variables over a period of time. The results reached allow us to conclude that the technological environment that surrounds tourism activity has encouraged the growth of tourism demand and can be one of the factors that determine it in an economic conjuncture that characterizes the current society.
