Resumo: The definition of a model to the lifecycle ofreligious tourism destinations is fully indebted,among others, to a thorough literature revisionof religious tourism research. Such revision mustbe conducted in a way such as to systematizescattered and formerly unrelated informationand to overcome existing information gaps.Only thus can we attain synergies amongexisting analyses.Hence, I will present an article advancing asynthesis of all statistics issued until 2006 andcharacterizing the demand and offer, as far asthis segment is concerned. Many of the availabledata are no longer updated. In such cases, Ishall place the emphasis on the approach takenby the respective authors, for what they stillcontribute to the expertise in this field. Withinthis background, I wish to draw the attention tothe relevance of research already at hand, while,at the same time, I urge researchers and activeagents in the field to repeat survey actions andpromote result comparison between formerlyexisting and new data.
