Resumo: This paper is based on the research that describes the paths and the actions of “Project Querença” (PQ), which aims to stop depopulation through the creation of sustainably productive arrangements in the Algarve region of southern Portugal. The methodology used was qualitative, using a document review of preliminary literature, visits to Querença, and interviews and observation of the environment. Data analysis was performed according to Geertz, in addition to interpreting the interviews, the repercussion of PQ in the research context, and considering the revival and rehabilitation of the village of Querença, whether by attracting young people to produce ideas that offer solutions to economic, social and cultural local problems as well as foster partnerships and networks to boost human and local development. In 2014, PQ has shown that it is possible to halt population decline by increasing these activities and attracting people to the village of Querença. Considering the possible productive arrangements due to PQ, tourism, if planned according to criteria of community-based rural tourism, is the ideal productive arrangement to promote and create products and services related to hospitality, gastronomy, and to cultural and natural heritage.
