Resumo: At the dawn of the twenty-first century changes recorded at the structural level have supported the development of a new competitive reality in tourism, driving the industry leading companies in this area of business (Hotels, Restaurants, Airlines, etc..) to adopt new models and management processes. In this sense, this paper is not an end in itself, but a starting point for a set of reflections, hypotheses and future lines of research, materializing its aim to identify general trends in the management of tourism businesses. The analysis model designed for this research is supported in a stategic approach matrix. At first, the paper identifies and reflects, in general, the new and main principles of the contextual environment of tourism businesses, taking a STEEP analysis matrix as a reference. After characterizing the above scenario, the paper focuses on the major changes on the level of the transactional environment, outlining the main changes and trends in the field of demand and tourism supply. Finally, the paper presents a set of reflections and trends for possible fields of analysis and research, as a way to understand the models and processes of management of tourism businesses. In order to support the trends suggested, which are designed within a framework of theoretical review of this area of study and reports produced by different companies, organizations and consultants, are presented different examples and case studies based on the national and international trade reference companies, embodying the theoretical framework presented. The literature review also worked as a support to frame and discuss the focus of study, trying to make a correlative analysis between the theoretical dimensions of the management model and the empirical dynamics from different case studies.
