Resumo: In the context of tourism, the image of the destinations has an important influence in the behaviour of the consumers. However, several studies show that the image people hold of tourism destinations may be influenced by their socio-demographic characteristics. The objective of this study is to identify the image that the visitors of the municipality of Aveiro hold about this municipality and to verify if this image is related with the socio-demographic characteristics of the visitors.The results reveal that people who visit the municipality have a positive image of Aveiro, particularly in terms of natural attractions, gastronomy and hospitality of local people. However, it shows that the image is influenced by the socio-demographic characteristics of the visitors, namely by their age, gender, level of education and nationality.
