Resumo: In most of the surveys accomplished in the tourism area there is not a sampling frame of the target population. Instead, it may exist a sampling frame formed by elements of another population, which are in some way related with the sample elements. The problem comes from the difficulty to associate a selection probability to the surveyed elements of the target population. In order to solve this type of estimation problem, one can use the Generalized Weight Share Method (GWSM) developed by Lavallée (1995, 2002). The GWSM provides an estimation weight for every surveyed element of the target population. This paper aims at describing the indirect sampling method and how to obtain the estimation weights from the GWSM. It also intends to propose an adaptation of this methodology to the solution of open environment touristic surveys.
