Resumo: This article presents the results of a survey on the training and professional insertion in the labour market in the area of tourism in Brazil. Specifically, this study aims to analyze the expectations of current students and graduates of the course of tourism of the Universidade Federal de Juiz de Fora with regard to vocational training and qualification in tourism. The research has exploratory character and aims to contribute to filling the gap expressive about studies involved in this theme. The approach is quali-quantitative research using simple descriptive statistics and content analysis offering possibilities of cross-check. The results show the profile of the student/graduate studies and practices presenting their behavior, in addition to possible incongruities in expectation of the labour market and take advantage of the course. As a conclusion, the Central insights indicate a misunderstanding on the part of the student regarding the formation oilfield and its potential and, consequently, there is an inconsistency between the active role of the student in his course and his performance in front of tourism market challenges.
