Resumo: Governments through National Tourism Organisations play a crucial role in marketing their countries as international tourist destinations which requires market knowledge, namely via segmentation approaches. An empirical study about 15 European Union Member States as generating markets for the Community, showed the existence of two segments, identified by applying cluster analysis to eight socio-economic variables.
