Resumo: Low Cost Carriers made a revolution in the traditional commercial aviation business model with important contributions to the increase of flights and traffic to selected airports, as well as positive impacts in the development of tourism in those regions. The present investigation aims to analyze the behavior verified in the airports of Lisbon and Oporto, especially after the entrance of Ryanair (in Oporto) and EasyJet (in Lisbon), trying also to identify the contribution given to the development of tourism in both cities. On the other hand, it will be also important to understand if the penetration of low cost carriers in these cities was done by the exit of full service carriers already installed in the market, or by the enlargement of options to new destinations not served previously. Despite the results achieved show a major validity for the hypothesis considered to Oporto rather than Lisbon, the behavior between the two cities is different.
