Resumo: The progress of communication and information technologies has promoted new models and stimuli in the tourism sector. When combined with tourists’ new behaviours, very influenced by Web 2.0 dynamics and outlined by social web based participative culture, have provided new opportunities for new tourism services, ubiquitous throughout the entire cycle of the touristic experience, and have been transformed according to the growing technological mediation present within the experience. Also, the advent of new Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) paradigms – such as Natural User Interfaces (NUI) – involves challenges and opportunities in regards to usability and the User Experience (UX) and, from a specific point of view, in relation to its integration in and impact on the touristic experience. The current paper aims to present an overview of the nature and challenges raised by gestural interfaces, complemented by a review of examples that apply gestural interfaces in tourism related contexts.
