Resumo: This article aims to show how prospective analysis is a tool that can enhance exploratory and strategic dimensions of tourism planning in contexts marked by rapid change, risk and other uncertainties and, thus, helping actors and stakeholders in definition processes and construction of new directions for tourism. The prospective studies are now a powerful tool in planning area and assume greater relevance in uncertain times, limited by the complexity and numerous constraints (but also opportunities) associated with globalization and crisis that are affecting the world-system.In tourism field, as elsewhere, besides informing policies through prospective diagnostics, the prospective analysis can strengthen the construction of actors’ networks involved in “shaping the future” in social innovation field and also contribute to build capacity across the region on the domain of the “prospective culture” development, reinforcing the collective empowerment and it own networks. In summary, knowledge of methods, techniques and operationalization ways of prospective by individual and collective actors in the tourism sector can be an enhancing and differentiating asset of a more informed strategic planning, participated and shared, thus more prepared to addressing multiple challenges of a complex reality and accelerated change.
