Resumo: In the context of the financial and economic crisis that is affecting Europe to bet on new tourism markets to the Algarve is increasingly an imperative. The Scandinavian tourism market (Norway, Filand, Sweden and Denmark) was considered in the National Strategic Plan for Tourism (PENT) as a market to develop. However, in the alignment of the Algarve Regional Plan of Tourism with the PENT, in 2009, this market was not considered. Conversely, at this point, the context is different. One the one hand the Scandinavian countries are in an economic situation that escapes the crisis that exists in the other European countries, and, on the other hand, in March 2010 was implemented a Ryanair airbase at Faro, and consequently airline routes to Denmark, Norway and Sweden were opened. From an ANA’s (Airports of Portugal) database containing the arrival of passengers on all routes operated to these countries during 10 years (2001-2011) and after treatment data, the HJ-BIPLOT method was used to analyze the behavior of airlines throughout this time period. It was found that the number of Scandinavian passengers arriving at the Algarve in the beginning of the decade (2001 to 2003), through charter operations, decreases in subsequent years, and that in 2010 e 2011, after the launch of the Ryanair routes, there is a sharp increase in passenger numbers from the Scandinavian market.
