Resumo: Initially connected to the idea of paternal or family heritage, the concept of cultural patrimony has been experiencing changes over time, and it is presently understood, not only as synonym of the past, memory of what remained as an heritage, but also as the present, as one can neither understand the present, nor think of the future, without watching the “memory”, that is, without a conjunction of a “before” with a “now” and an “after”, in order to create an “image” that may represent the social or the social memory which we belong to. The research project we refer to in this paper was born from the fascination and interest that patrimony has always had upon us, and in particular the patrimony of Alto Tâmega and Barroso. With this project, we intend to verify the possibility of developing – on a cultural patrimony basis - a new tourist product, given the need to diversify the tourist offer of the region under study, which, presently, privileges almost exclusively the health and well-being product.
