Resumo: From last 50 years, tourism development had been promoted to bring several numbers of visitors to generate lot of millions of dollars. However, the result of this tourism policy has a severe impact on the environment and an important consequence on society, as a result the decadence of the economical model due to the depletion of the natural resources and the increase of poverty. Even though the official discourse looks forward a sustainable development of the tourism activity. Besides, the policy and actions are directed to increase incomes and visitors on natural spaces. To face the crisis, use and implementation of carrying capacity contributes to establish the limits to the equilibrium of the natural and social environment, main attractive to promote traveling. Thus, carrying capacity allows the implementation of variables to measure the balance between economy – society and environment.
