Resumo: For centuries, Brazil has been linked to stereotypes related to the exotic and the paradise, as if such concepts were sufficient to contain all the features and values about the country. Even today, Brazil faces the consequences of such distortion, despite recent initiatives of the State, represented by Ministry of Tourism and the Brazilian Institute of Tourism, EMBRATUR, in an effort to present others and different attributes that best describe the country. This exploratory study is structured from the contribution of national identity for the formation of the image of the country and, subsequently, the image projected by institutionalized campaigns, movies and other forms of art, which have contributed to the ratification of stereotypes.
