Resumo: This article aims to approach the conceptual aspects that involve the delimitation of the tourism phenomenon, with focus on the particularities that distinguish domestic tourism.It is also intended to demonstrate that any progress in defining the scope of domestic tourism, contribute to better knowledge of this form of tourism, with all its advantages.Furthermore, greater precision in the conceptual perspective implies the existence of a statistical coverage accordingly, which requires the ability to operate the instruments suitable for that purpose. In this sense, it is also an objective of this article to ensure the systematic statistical tools that reveal themselves as indispensable to the characterization of domestic tourism, emphasizing also the challenges and constraints associated.
