Resumo: The aim of this study is to analyse the enterprising process, adopting the theoretical model of Borges et al. (2005), that identifies stages and activities that occur in new businesses creation. Data had been collected through halfstructuralized personal interviews with four entrepreneurs of small hospitality enterprises in Aracaju, through interview script. The main reason for the creation of business was to use an advantage perceived and, in the preparation stage, it was evidenced that, although the free support offered by SEBRAE, the entrepreneurs initiate their enterprises without carrying through a business plan. In start-up stage entrepreneurs had pointed the slowness and bureaucracy as the biggest difficulties concerning the register of the business. In the consolidation stage, it was observed that hotels had not yet reached the break-even point, but the inns had obtained profits in four years of functioning. The entrepreneurs consider that the business is compensating, however, some detach the low profitability, the excess of work and the lack of incentive from the government in the support and development of the tourism activities of the State.
