Resumo: Today, the village reassumes a high centrality in our world. In Schist villages, there was a resurgence of new communities, which once again, breath life into spaces of sharing. People are looking for a new way of life, in communion with local people and their traditions. The village shapes alternatives and claims its rightful place in our modern lives. The people and companies that make Schist villages the center of their world have a common desire, for preservation and promotion of rural environment be the pillars of a new way of life and a new sustainable economy. Over the years, 23 Schist Villages scattered in 13 municipalities of Pinhal Interior were the target of a re-qualification programme that allows villages to acquire human development potentials. The objective of this article is to reflect on the development of this project based on sustainability concept and the transformations that occurred in the territory, with the implementation of this network. From the analysis of the results, it is envisaged that a new economic base could arise through the recovery of traditions, the valorization of the built architectural heritage and the dynamization of the traditional arts and crafts as well as the protection and preservation of the landscape in which they belong.
