Resumo: This article aims at finding out the perception the community Galo de Barcelos has got of its interpretation center and the benefits it can bring to their socioeconomic development and welfare. This study was conducted through a session of ‘focus group’ which is a technique for data collection of the qualitative methodology for scientific research. It was concluded that the group of respondents, belonging to this community, ignores and underestimates the local interpretation center, but believes in the potential of their core product Galo de Barcelos. They enhance this hallmark and believe its legend to be a key factor for differentiation and promotion of this product. It is assumed that tourists, usually, appreciate products associated to a ‘story’, the kind of this legend of the Galo de Barcelos.
