Resumo: Given the relevance of tourism to the Portuguese regional economies, the main aim of this paper is to study whether the investments made in related-tourism facilities contributed to the regional growth of all the Portuguese regions included in the NUTS II Norte and Alentejo, with special emphasis on the NUTS III Alto-Trás-os-Montes and Alentejo Central. These two regions have different usage patterns of the infrastructure and different levels of tourism development. A panel data approach was used to assess the contribution of several related tourism variables to the growth of GDP per capita of those regions.
