Resumo: The world wine industry has been consensually understood according to the dichotomy 'Old World' versus 'New World'. This distinction tends to be reflected in the wine tourism that is practiced there, with 'Old World' wine tourism more centered on wine, tasting and buying/selling wine, while 'New World' wine tourism tends to be more comprehensive in sense of the tourist experience, considering, in addition to wine, all the surroundings, such as the rural landscape, the activities that can be developed there, a more global experience of the territory and its culture and nature. But is this distinction reflected in the visitor's sociodemographic characteristics and travel behavior? This literature review aims to compare the sociodemographic profile and travel behavior of 'Old World' and 'New World' wine tourists. To this end, 60 scientific works were analyzed, mostly developed in the last five years. The results suggest that the 'Old World' and 'New World' wine tourism experts differ only with regard to sex, being mostly male in the first case and female in the second. These results are discussed with special emphasis on social narratives about alcohol consumption. In addition, the results also indicate an investigation gap about the travel behavior of the wine tourist, mainly observable, emphasizing the need to continue to develop studies in this area, especially considering the 'Old World' / 'New World' dichotomy.
