Resumo: Man is a cultural being, who likes to know what is different, a fact that constitutes a strong motivation for tourism. The tourism of sun and sea is massified, compared to other geographic alternatives where the contact with nature, heritage, local customs and differentiating characteristics is valued. It is a higher quality of tourism activity emerging in the Interior, a timely initiative and a potential solution to seasonality issue.The paper reflects on the key factors of affirming a tourist development project in the Historical Village of Marialva. It aims to create a ‘hotel with atmosphere’ concept that meets the expectations of the contemporary travelers. The intention is to create a key alternative to mass tourism that responds to current market trends and demands for unconventional spaces.The analysis of the results is expected to allow us to conclude on the importance of a new centrality that can represent a huge potential to attract more visitors.
